THE LORD GETS BURDENED

THE LORD’S BURDEN FROM HIS WORD Mal 1:1-5

Jeremiah 23:35-37

Mal 1:1

A. THE PROPHET’S MESSAGE WAS A BURDEN TO HIMSELF.

Denunciations of wrong doing and wrong doers is not easy.

Stern things still have to be spoken for God, but with pathos, and tears ready to start.

No man can deliver a message of judgment properly until he feels it to be a burden.

B. THE PROPHET’S MESSAGE SHOULD BE A BURDEN TO THOSE ADDRESSED.

A burden of holy concern causing serious self-searching.

It should burden hearers with anxiety about their sins, and a desire to put sin away.

Better to accept the burden as such than it become a burden of God’s judgment.

Oswald Chambers:   Conviction of sin is one of the rarest things that ever strikes a man. It is the threshold of an understanding of God. Jesus Christ said that when the Holy Spirit came He would convict of sin, and when the Holy Spirit rouses the conscience and brings him into the presence of God, it is not his relationship with men that bothers him, but his relationship with God.”
Conviction of sin is the unbearable burden of all of your sin and filthiness before a holy and righteous God. The word in the Greek carries the idea of exposing your sin. When the Spirit of God brings this type of conviction it reveals your total bankruptcy before God. The burden of that sin can only be overcome by realizing God’s blessing of salvation. … When does salvation take place? when we stop disagreeing with the truth of our rebellion against God. At this point we no longer have the pride or arrogance to say “I’m good.”

C. THE PROPHET’S MESSAGE MAY BE THOUGHT OF AS A BURDEN TO GOD.

“Have I any pleasure in the death of the wicked?”

God having to punish His people, troubles Him.

He is burdened by the messages which our sin compels him to send.

What burdens the Lord?

I. God is burdened by our wilful ignorance and our inconsiderate doubt.

Mal 1:2a

Doubt his love. Ignorant and forgetful of all he has done for us.

Death and destruction comes upon all mankind.

It could have been someone else that was saved. Not our works!!!!

II. God is burdened by our ingratitude for his salvation.

Mal 1:2b

Mal 1:3

Salvation: we may suffer temporary setbacks but not ruin.  Our inheritance is sure.

1 Corinthians 2:9

III. God is burdened by our lack of resolve.

Mal 1:4

How many of the lost are resolved to build even without the Lord’s help.

All mankind builds on earth will be destroyed, temporal and will face judgement.

God’s people often sit and wallow in self-pity because things have not gone well.

Anything we do or build for Christ will have abiding and everlasting blessing and will last.

IV. Our Saviour is burdened by our lack of faith.

Mal 1:5

Prophetic passage!

There is a story about a little girl who watched her mother & dad busy on the days leading up to her Birthday, and even on her birthday it seemed to her, that dad her was preoccupied with everything else but her, & mom was concerned about all the things she had to do, & they just had no time for her, no one had even said Happy Birthday. She felt that she was being shoved aside and went to school feeling sorry for herself and just a little put out with her parents. Came home to a big surprise party! Cousins aunts grandparents, kids from the church all came over. The best birthday she ever had.

Our faith shall become sight.  We will be vindicated in the end.

Our God will be magnified in our lives in our land and in our church.

We must repent of our negativity criticism scepticism and rejoice in the assurance of God’s final blessing upon us.
